"A Pair of Silk Stockings" by Kate Chopin (Hunter, 2009)
Mrs. Sommers, having come into possession of an unexpected windfall, chooses to temporarily escape from the dreary responsibilities of a rather common, penny pinching existence to enjoy some of the finer things in life for a fleeting moment of lightness, free from the usual shackles of conscientiousness expected of a wife and mother. We are given no reason to believe that Mrs. Sommers had ever previously neglected the necessities of her family in order to selfishly enjoy such a fleeting pleasure as any woman would be entitled to by virtue of her gender. I see her purchase of the silk stockings and subsequent indulgences as inevitable temptations given the sudden circumstances of unexpected cash in lieu of the regular obligations being as satisfied as they ever were. This momentous event of hedonism could hardly tip the scales of justice when weighed against a lifetime of abstention, temperance, and moderation for the sake of honoring the unwritten contract to fulfill matrimonial obligation and motherly pride. Hence, the theme of escapism herein is universal. We often consider subservience as a key issue addressed by the women’s movement and feminism. However, in “A Pair of Silk Stockings,” the issue of economics is brought into focus with both gender and class taking center stage. I do sympathize with Mrs. Sommers.www.ministryofwritinghelps.com
This short story makes clear the fact that to be a wife and mother one has to be an excellent book keeper and administrator in order to meet the ever changing and abundant needs of her family. I would imagine that rare was the occasion when time, opportunity, and disposable income would be available to anyone of the lower or working class, whether they be male or female, in order to enjoy such a mildly opulent day as Mrs. Sommers had on the day described in this story. She was a victim of circumstances and to call her selfish is to ignore the greater contexts of class, gender, precedence, and economics indicated by the author. I am convinced that Mrs. Sommers betrayed neither Christian ethics nor her family by her actions. No amount of Scripture considered in context could dissuade my conclusion that this woman had consistently practiced self sacrifice for her family and also suffered unfathomable indignities as a "have not" in American society up until that day.
There is also no reason to believe that she will not return to her selfless and dutiful life as thrifty wife and mother at the story's end. From the standpoint of developments and movements in American society and how they are reflected in the Literature written throughout our history, taking into consideration the setting of this tale, I am trying to have an open mind to the complexities of Mrs. Sommers’ dilemma and not take the easy route of pointing my finger at an act of sin. The point I am trying to make is that there is more to this story than that. Mrs. Sommers usually shopped for her family’s needs at the expense of her own. She usually never treated herself to anything nice, not even an occasional luncheon or the theater. She would usually fight tooth and nail to secure the necessities of life at a bargain for her family’s sake. This story does not paint her as a terrible sinner, but rather as a woman usually inclined towards sainthood.

This story is about a very unusual day in the life of an extraordinarily virtuous woman who, having otherwise sacrificed life and limb for her family for years, had enough self respect and self esteem left to take advantage of a fleeting fortuitous circumstance and temporarily break out of the box of her usually studious and exemplary way of life. Her thriftiness had perhaps saved her family fifteen dollars a thousand times over throughout the years of her marriage. I am not so quick as others to cast a stone at her for one single, documented, isolated incident of non-puritan action in the 1890s when women were beginning to be thought of as more than chattel in a male dominated society. Consider that Mrs. Sommers had likely been ordered by her husband occasionally to bring home a thirty dollar box of cigars or some other frivolity for him to enjoy with his buddies. I am moved, not to condemn, but to defend the honor of this heroine.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." (Galatians 5:1)
It would appear, after taking heed to 2 Timothy 2:15, that every angel appearing in Scripture is male rather than female. Exegesis also reveals that angels, beings created long before the creation and subsequent fall of man, are definitely not reproducing and birthing families of angels in heaven. Gender is a function of biology, and, angels are definitely not, by nature, biological. Absolutely unlike angels, mankind is terrestrial. Angels are not comprised of body, soul, and spirit as we are. Furthermore, people do not become angels when they die. The Father of all lies has everything to gain from our ignorance because the bliss of ignorance makes his evil objectives, especially deception and bondage, that much easier to achieve (John 8:44). www.ministryofwritinghelps.com
So what does any of this have to do with anything? What is the point of this line of reasoning? Please allow me to treat this witness a hostile, judge. Erroneous doctrine is all about deception, manipulation, control. An abusive husband has everything to gain from isolating his docile wife from any form of truth. He wants to keep her isolated from everyone, especially friends, family, spiritual mentors, or any others who might whisper the gospel in her ear or reveal the way, the truth, and the abundant life to her because, once she hears the Word of truth (2 Corinthians 6:7), faith will rise up (Romans 10:17) and scales would fall from her eyes (Acts 9:18).https://soundcloud.com/brian-…/abuse-collaboration-project-1
This demonically inspired wretch of a husband who wants to keep faith starving in the dark, barefoot, and pregnant with a hopelessness that would seem to result in spiritual still-birth after still-birth, will be defeated in Jesus' name. Hope has hitherto been short-lived in her marriage because, although Satan's houseboy, this murderer in her midst, apologizes and says he will never hit her again, she has lost track of how many times she has fallen for his lies, fallen for his sweet talk of change, and fallen deeper into the pit of despair only to feel the pain of his assault yet again. However, all is not lost! Hallelujah! Faith, hope, and love have alerted goodness and mercy to her plight. The Spirit of God therefore speaks deliverance. Glory to God! Hallelujah! Pack your bags, Babydoll! Your train, His train, the train of His robe (Isaiah 6:1) is at the station waiting on you. Hallelujah! http://simstem.blogspot.com/…/pair-of-silk-stockings-by-kat…
There is a place prepared for you, daughter of The Most High God, at the king's table right now, this very day. Oh yes, Princess! Right now! The Anointed One and His anointing are destroying the yoke of bondage that has kept you bound in Lodebar for so long (2 Samuel Chapter 9:1-13). Escape! Run for your life! Jesus is the door (John 10:9-16). Jesus is the God who has faithfully promised and shall faithfully deliver all of your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:4-7, 19). Arise, O daughter of Jerusalem! "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk" through the door in whom we trust. Hallelujah! God is moving you away from Lodebar to a new location, a new season of wealth and abundance, and a deeper level of intimacy in your relationship with Him. He is better than the best lover. Oh yes! He is love (1 John 4:8). Bless the holy name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! God's Vineyard

TAKE CARE OF YOUR EYES WHILE USING PC/MOBILE
During a recent visit to an optician, one of my friend was told of an exercise for the eyes by a specialist doctor that he termed as 20-20-20. It is apt for all of us, who spend long hours at our desks, looking at the computer/Mobile screen.
I Thought I'd share it with you.
20-20-20
Step I :-
After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.

Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body.

Circulate among all if you care. They say that your eyes are mirrors of your soul, so do take care of them, they are priceless.
